Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of Tepuksorak massage therapy on pain and lumbar function in cases of nonspecific LBP. The research method used was an experiment with a randomized control group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 40 people with subacute and chronic nonspecific LBP complaints, divided into two treatment groups and a control group, each consisting of 20 people. The variables measured were pain and lumbar function, all of which were measured before treatment for pretest data and after treatment for posttest data, which were measured on day 1 (24 hours), day 2 (48 hours), and day 3 (72 hours) after treatment. The measuring instruments used were the Visual Analogue Scale to measure pain and the Oswestry disability index to measure lumbar function. The results revealed that, for pain variable, the Friedman test presented p-value result of 0.000<0.05 and for function variable was a p-value of 0.000<0.05. These results indicate that Tepuksorak massage therapy is significant in reducing pain and improving lumbar function in cases of nonspecific LBP. The conclusion of this study is that Tepuksorak massage is effective in reducing pain and improving lumbar function in cases of nonspecific LBP.
